Dental Bridges and Dental Crowns Sydney – Fixing Your Smile at Evergreen Dental
So, When do I need a Dental Crown or Bridge?
Imagine the scenario… you’re sitting down to a well earned lunch break and you bite into a sandwich. Suddenly you feel something hard and minerally in your mouth. You spit it out and there it is on the plate staring back at you – a part of your tooth! You rush to the mirror and sure enough, the tooth in question has a rather obvious chunk missing. What’s more, it’s right in your smile line. You contact the dentist who tells you that you’ll probably need a crown; but what exactly is that?
A dental crown is often more commonly known as a cap. Why? Because it’s designed to fit over or ‘cap’ the offending tooth. Made from a variety of materials including all-ceramic and porcelain fused to metal (PFM), modern crowns are designed to be lifelike and durable.
In addition to covering cracks and chips, crowns can also be used when a tooth has been damaged by decay or trauma, or after certain procedures such as root canal therapy. In addition they’re also used to finish off a dental implant. Modern-day crowns offer both superior aesthetics and better bite function.
Replacing Multiple Teeth – Bridging the Gap!
While dental crowns tend to replace or cap individual teeth, bridges are designed to replace one or more adjacent missing teeth. Utilising a framework of prosthetic crowns the bridge is anchored onto the remaining teeth either side of the space. The crowns then span or ‘bridge’ the gap giving the appearance and function of natural teeth.

Need a Dental Crown or Bridge? Here’s the Low-down on What You Can Expect!
At Evergreen Dental, when you come to us with any tooth problem we ensure that a thorough examination is carried out. The good news is that having a dental bridge or crown only takes two visits. During the first meeting we’ll prepare the tooth/teeth ready to take the crown or bridge and take an impression of your mouth, so that it can be sent off to the dental lab. From here your permanent crowns will be ready within 2-3 weeks.
In the interim you’ll receive a temporary bridge/crown to tie you over until your permanent restoration is ready. Remember it won’t be as strong as your permanent restorations, so you’ll need to be careful what you eat!
When the time comes, you’ll return to our practice to have your temporaries removed and your permanent ones fixed into place. The whole process is quick and easy and designed to cause you as little inconvenience as possible.
